GovLoop, the premier social network for government, brings the "awesomeness" to the next level by tying in philanthropy with government 2.0 through the AwesomeGov Fund.

GovLoop is a big believer in social entrepreneurship – companies like Tom’s Shoes that donate one pair of shoes for every pair of shoes purchased. We’ve been a big supporter of initiatives like the GovLoop Kiva groups, where over 65 GovLoopers have already come together to donate over $10,000 to charity, and big fans of the fine folks at the Combined Federal Campaign.

Giving Project #1: Member Donation Drive (December 2009)
Adventures For the Cure Gets $1,789 Donation

A great charity startup founded in 2005 by two Gen Yers (Adam Driscoll, who works for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and Patrick Blair, who is a government contractor) who affected by Type 1 diabetes created their own charity to give back. They have an awesome camp every summer for kids with diabetes and also spend time and money to help kids with diabetes in Kenya. Plus they have had four bike trips across the country and even a documentary filmed made about their awesomeness. Visit our blog posting for more details.

Giving Project #2 : Travel Scholarships to CityCamp (January 2010) ($2,000)
City Leaders can't afford travel expenses to CityCamp? Enter GovLoop...
CityCamp is a great unconference for municipal leaders. Unfortunately, many couldn't attend because of travel constraints. End of story? No! Refusing to simply stand on the sidelines and let potential collaboration and idea sharing go unrealized, GovLoop teamed up with Code for America to offer (4) $500 travel scholarships to attend City Camp in Chicago. Winners included city leaders from Manor, TX, New Haven, CT, Durham, NC, and Omaha, NE.

Giving Project #3: Help a GovLooper (March 2010) ($2,500)
Help a GovLooper Achieve a Dream - Cancer, Slovakia, Triplets & Medical Bills

GovLoop is more than a website, more than a social network...it truly is a community. And when someone in the community is in need...we help them out. So we have launched a drive to help out one of our members: David Broadwell. He is a former USGS employee who (worked at 3 different agencies) and GovLooper, whose wife Antonia was diagnosed with an extremely rare, high grade cancer just eight months after giving birth to triplets. Her one goal in life now is to spend her remaining months in her native country (Slovakia) surrounded by friends. You can read more about David via our Member of the Week feature as well as David sharing the story in his own words below and on his website: forantonia.wordpress.com/

Giving Project #4: Scholarship Contest (September 2010) ($1,250)
GovLoop teamed up with CampusGov to launch a $2,500 scholarship for a student interested in pursuing a career in public service.  GovLoop received over 300 amazing submissions from across the country.  After stiff competition and an extremly difficult final decision, the scholarship was awarded Kyle Robisch, a senior from the University of Florida who interned at EPA, SSA, played an important role in Student Senate, and is passionate about public service.

Giving Project #5 - CityCamp London (October 2010) ($500)
CityCamp LDN is a real first. As part of the original CityCamp movement started in Chicago in 2010, CityCamp LDN took it to the next level with two intense days of collaboration and learning. The event brought together London's leaders from government, communities, academia, and organizations, providing fertile ground for stimulating dialog around how technology can seed the future of London. GovLoop donated $500 to ensure a successful camp was shared by all.

Giving Project #6: Dreams for Kids (October 2010) ($3,000)
Dreams for Kids empowers at-risk youth and those with disabilities through dynamic leadership programs and life-changing activities
. GovLoop teamed up with Dreams for Kids and Up with People to host a membership charity drive. Over 100 volunteers spread across D.C. with signs such as "Government is Awesome" and signed-up members for GovLoop. Dreams for Kids signed up over 300 members. GovLoop donated $3,000 to Dreams for Kids which will be used to support disadvantaged youth.
