Ever curious about how to get traffic to government information? It's pretty simple – make it unique, compelling, and fun.

One example of this is CDC's recent blog that has gone viral about social media preparedness for zombie attacks. Yes, you read that correctly – zombie attacks.

I checked Google news and presently there are over 700 news articles about this CDC blog post with coverage from The Washington Post to Fox News and other huge sources.

I'm curious about how much traffic they are getting to this post. At one point last week, the blog was down from too much traffic.

The real opportunity in situations like this is learning how to take such incredible one-time traffic and turn it into regular relationships by encouraging people to sign up for something like Facebook, email or RSS feeds (notice how there's a prominent signup on the right of the post).

Have you had one of your blog posts go viral and generate such impressive traffic? I'd love to hear how you capitalized on this opportunity.
