GovLoop logo

Have you heard of GovLoop? It's a place where anyone working in the government community around the world can connect to share ideas, solve problems, and make friends. In less than 1.5 years, GovLoop has gone from an idea to a vibrant community with more than 18,000 members. If you work in government, you’ll want to join and contribute to this community. You need it and it needs you.

GovDelivery is pleased to announce that we have joined forces with GovLoop, the premier social networking site for government, to become one company. This is an exciting development combining two visionary companies with similar missions: GovDelivery aims to provide the best possible communications platform to the public sector and GovLoop connects government to improve government.

Communicate Flu-Related Updates through Multiple Channels

Flu.gov logo

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reports of widespread influenza activity in September are typically unusual and already 26 states in the U.S. are reporting such. The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and CDC are strongly urging state and local health officials, educational institutions, parents and caregivers to plan and prepare for the 2009 flu season as cases of H1N1 are expected to intensify.

The public looks to government health agencies for official health information. In an effort to reach the public with vital information regarding the H1N1 flu pandemic, government agencies send millions of official updates through GovDelivery's email and digital communication platform. Since the outbreak in late April 2009, over 22 million government email messages have been sent regarding H1N1 by CDC and HHS alone.

With the expectation of an incredibly harsh flu season, it’s more important than ever for organizations to be prepared to leverage multiple communication channels (email, text messaging, social media, etc.) to reach the largest possible audience.

Disability.gov Receives "Excellence in Communications" Award

Disability.gov logo

Disability.gov, managed by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), was recognized for its Excellence in Communications. This award recognizes government entities that demonstrate innovation and leadership in proactive government-to-citizen communication. The award was presented to Kevin Connors, Program Director, ODEP for using innovative Web 2.0 technologies to support the mission of connecting people with disabilities with the resources they need to fully participate in their communities. Disability.gov launched a new service to engage stakeholders and increased its reach to new subscribers by more than 1,000%.

The Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) was authorized by Congress in the Department of Labor’s 2001 appropriation, recognizing the need for a national policy to ensure that people with disabilities are fully integrated into the 21st Century workforce. Critical to its mission of connecting people with disabilities with the resources they need to fully participate in their communities, Disability.gov implemented GovDelivery's Email and Digital Subscription Management solution in May 2005 to improve proactive communication and reach a larger audience. By July 2008, Disability.gov had reached just over 26,000 subscribers and sent 2.7 million email alerts.

Disability.gov dramatically increased its reach by collaborating with 21 other government agencies through GovDelivery’s Collaboration Network including the U.S. Department of Labor, Social Security Administration, U.S. Access Board, and Minnesota Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities. The unique Web 2.0 Collaboration Network allows ODEP to cross-promote their content and offer more topics to their subscriber audience. Since launching this feature, average daily new subscribers has increased from a previous average of 25.68 to 270.87. Total number of subscribers has reached over 115,000 and more than 60% of total emails have been sent within the last year of service.
