State Department Recruits GovDocs
Office of Recruitment Triples Subscriber Base in 2 Months By Offering Specific Subscription Options

(Excerpt from Washington Technology "Tech Success" Column - January 26, 2004)

The State Department's recruitment office was using an e-mail list application to broadcast messages to people about new jobs, internships, training and related information. The problem, said Diane Castiglione, the State Department's recruitment director, was that everyone who subscribed got the same information.

"If we wanted to say that summer internship applications were now being accepted, it went out to 6,000 people, a good number of whom couldn't have cared less," Castiglione said.

Results from using GovDelivery:

  • Went from offering 2 e-mail subscription options to offering over 40 (caters to each citizen's specific interest)
  • Tripled subscriber base within three months -- Grew subscriber base from 5,600 at 11/21/04 launch to over 27,000 on 4/1/04
  • Sent over 59,342 messages since launch
  • Generated more than 19,000 extra visits to the website from subscribers clicking through to website from e-mails
